Privacy Policy — KeyPets

App: KeyPets (com.keypets.KeyPets)

Effective date: June 7, 2026

Summary

KeyPets is a macOS menu bar companion that counts key presses only to grow virtual pets and track typing rhythm. It does not read typed characters, app names, window titles, clipboard content, screenshots, or passwords. Studio Uchu does not run analytics or tracking for the core app, and your typing stats and pet progress stay on your Mac. The only time data leaves your device is if you choose to use the optional Studio Uchu AI chat — described separately below.

Information We Collect (Core App)

None. For the keystroke counter and pet habitat, Studio Uchu does not collect personal data or usage data on any server. There is no account required for the core app, no sign-in, no telemetry, and no advertising.

Data Stored on Your Mac

To run the game and show your stats, KeyPets stores the following locally on your device only (SwiftData in the app sandbox):

  • Keystroke counts and hourly totals
  • Session duration and break count
  • Animal state, species, evolution progress, and XP
  • Your in-app settings and preferences

This information is not transmitted to Studio Uchu or any third party by the core app. You can remove it by deleting KeyPets.

What KeyPets Never Records

KeyPets is designed with Privacy Mode always on. The app never stores or transmits:

  • Typed characters or the content of what you write
  • Application names or window titles
  • Screenshots, clipboard content, or passwords

Keystroke Counting

KeyPets counts only the key presses delivered to its own windows (for example, when you type in the KeyPets AI chat or notes), using a standard local event monitor. It does not use macOS Accessibility, Input Monitoring, or any system-wide keystroke capture, and it cannot see what you type in other apps. It only increments a counter — it never reads or stores the characters you type.

Because KeyPets uses no Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission, there is nothing to grant or revoke — keystroke counting works out of the box and runs only while a KeyPets window is focused.

Network Use (Core App)

The keystroke counter, habitat, and menu bar features work without any network connection. The core app contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party tracking.

Optional: Studio Uchu AI Chat

KeyPets includes an optional AI chat powered by the shared Studio Uchu AI membership (the same subscription can work across other Studio Uchu apps). If you sign in and send a message, your chat input is sent over HTTPS to our Cloudflare Worker, then to US-based inference providers configured for Zero Data Retention (ZDR). We do not store conversation content on our servers.

Full details — providers, metadata we keep for billing limits, Sign in with Apple, account deletion, and children's privacy for the membership — are on our shared policy page:

Studio Uchu AI — Data & Privacy

Using Studio Uchu AI is never required to count keystrokes or play with your pets.

Purchases

Optional Studio Uchu AI subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store. Studio Uchu does not receive your payment details or Apple ID. The app only checks on your device whether an entitlement is active.

Children's Privacy

The core app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you use Studio Uchu AI, the membership terms on the linked page apply.

Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a revised effective date.
